Camp Loblolly is a volunteer led camp sponsored by Service Unit 617. Quite simply, that means we can't have camp without you. Your time and talents are what makes Camp Loblolly great! With your help, we are able to provide an amazing week of fun, friendship and experiences beyond the troop for as many as 100 girls in our area.
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities at Camp Loblolly. We need volunteers:
to lead, with your assigned CAT, scout level units
to support our Camp Aide team as they grow their leadership skills
to help with the indoor or outdoor themed activities of the camp
to guide the creative activities in the craft room
We will work with you to try and find a volunteer role that best suits your talents. We will train you on what you need to know to deliver a quality experience for all campers. We try to place new volunteers with more experienced ones so that they can share their knowledge and experience.
Who can be an Adult Volunteer at Camp Loblolly?
Troop leaders, assistant troop leaders, cookie moms yes...but so can any parent, grandparent, or adult sibling. You must be registered as a Girl Scout Volunteer and completed the Council Background check and complete both council and camp training.
How do I become an Adult Volunteer?
Register as a Girl Scout Volunteer and complete the Council Background Check if you are not already registered. You can do this step prior to the opening of Adult Registration. If you need help with this process, please feel free to contact Us
Assign yourself the role of Day Camp Volunteer in MYGS. This must be done each year.
Complete the Day Camp Volunteer Learning Path in "MYGS - Learn" prior to the Camp Loblolly training in April. This Path includes the following courses:
Girl Scout Levels and Your Role as a Troop Leader
Safety First
Mandated Reporter (needs to be renewed every two years)
GSUSA Girl Scouts Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Course
Attend all trainings and prep sessions.
All dates and times are found under Adult Registration tab for training, prep sessions and camp days.
Can I be assigned to my camper's unit at camp?
You will not be the Unit Leader for your camper's unit. Camp Loblolly is a day camp program designed to provide a safe, healthy environment for campers to experience independence, new leadership styles and have new experiences beyond their parent and/or troop leader. Is your camper ready for camp, but you’re nervous about letting her go? (be honest now) this is the perfect solution! She will have her own independent experience, and you’ll be able to keep an eye out from a distance in your volunteer assignment.
I have a child who is too young to be a camper. Can I bring them with me while I volunteer?
Yes! Volunteer children are called tags and will be in their own unit all day.
Girls, ages one until they finished their kindergarten year
Boys, ages one to eight. For boys that are currently in elementarty school, though, you can also enroll them in Cub Scout Day Camp. This is held at the next church over the same week as our camp. Please contact Boy Scouts Flint River Council for pricing and details.
There is no charge for Tag-a-longs.
At lunch time, you will be responsible for picking up your tag and bringing them to have lunch with your unit.
Benefits of a FULL week of volunteering.
$100 camper credit for each related Camp Loblolly camper
Free childcare for Tagalongs*
Complimentary luncheon on Friday of Camp
The knowledge you made a different to over 100 Girl Scouts
*Children/grandchildren of volunteers ages one to six are welcome to join us as part of our "Tagalong unit". Tagalongs attend Camp Loblolly at no charge and can be either girls or boys.
