Is there any special training I need to volunteer at Camp Loblolly?
Council requires four trainings to be taken on line. We will work with you in order to make sure that you are completely trained through gsLearn prior to May.
In May we will be having a Meet and Greet with the CATs on Saturday, May 3rd at the end of their all day training.
We will then have an in person training on Sunday, June 1st at the church. New Volunteers will have a session and then the experienced volunteers will join them as we review the program, logistics, etc. Once finished with the training we will be setting up camp. We ask that no children attend this session because it is a lot of work in a short amount of time and we will not have child care.
Materials such as schedules, programs and other important information will be emailed in May after our CATs work through the program at their training and offer suggestions and changes. We ask that you review this information prior to June.
Can I be assigned to my daughter's unit at camp?
You will not be the Unit Leader for your daughter’s unit. Camp Loblolly is a day camp program designed to provide a safe, healthy environment for daughters to experience independence, new leadership styles and have new experiences beyond their parent and/or troop leader. Is your daughter ready for camp, but you’re nervous about letting her go? (be honest now) This is the perfect solution! She will have her own independent experience, and you’ll be able to keep an eye out from a distance in your volunteer assignment. The whole camp has lunch together every day so you can always check in then. Camp Loblolly is an awesome, shared family experience, and many a ride home from camp is filled with non-stop chatter, laughter and songs!
What are the hours of camp as a volunteer?
We ask that you arrive at camp by 8:15 each morning to prep for the day. You will drop off your camper in the arts and crafts room and your tag in the tag room.
We ask that you stay M-W until 3:30 to prep for the next day.
On Thursday we ask that you stay until 4:00 p.m. because this is the day we break down the bulk of our camp since Friday is an outdoor day with different activities than we do during the week.
On Friday we ask that you stay until 1:00 p.m. We will probably be finished prior to this, though.
At the end of each day, your camper will be brought directly from their unit to the the arts and crafts room, where they will stay until you are finished. Your tag will remain in the tag room.
I have a daughter who is too young to be a camper. Can I bring her with me while I volunteer?
Yes! Volunteer children (boys and girls) ages one to eight are called "Tag-a-longs”. For the days that you volunteer at camp, your younger children will be in the Tag-a-longs unit.
Your tag will be in their unit during the entire time you are at camp.
There is no charge for Tag-a-longs.
At lunch time, you will be responsible for picking up your tag and bringing them to have lunch with your unit.
Is there any sort of discount for my daughter to be a camper if I volunteer?
If you volunteer for the entire week of camp, you will receive a $100 credit for each related camper to attend Camp Loblolly.
I don't have any related children attending Camp Loblolly this year. Can I donate my camper credit to an unrelated camper?
No--While this is a very considerate and caring offer, we find that it is best to limit this credit to only related campers. Financial assistance is available. Contact us to request financial assistance.
Do I need to volunteer the whole week to get the camper credit?
You must volunteer the entire week to receive the camper credit.
I will be working during the week of Day Camp but I would still like to help out. Are there other ways for me to contribute?
If you can only volunteer for a day or two, we would still welcome your help. There are many volunteer jobs that make our camp run, not just the week of camp and we will work with you to find a way to contribute. Please contact us in advance what your availability will be so we can schedule accordingly.
